her ground is air - a skyward choreography for two vertical dancers and a musician is a homage to the German-Jewish writer Hilde Domin (1909–2006), known as the "Poet of Nevertheless." "Nevertheless" was her life motto—nevertheless in times of war, nevertheless in despair, and nevertheless in her poetry. The performance reflects on the fragility of humanity: the unyielding wall the dancers confront and the deep abyss beneath them serve as a metaphor for an era filled with fears. The rope that holds them provides safety and opens up possibilities for discovering new paths. The further one dares to descend, the greater the space for dance in the air becomes. In the music, a descending fifth endlessly circles, giving rise to a gentle melody from the ostinato. It is an invitation to find courage and, even in barbaric times, to dance and shine — like stars in the night and like Hilde Domin’s poetry. her ground is air is a co-production by choreographer and dancer Rebekka Gather and composer and performer Mara Miribung.*
